Day 2 - Lantern Festival

We've arrived - this is our third time to visit Hong Kong and I'm sure it won't be our last. Hong Kong International Airport is super efficient. Immigration is quick as no visa is needed before landing. Our bags were out first too!

We picked up our Octopus cards (Leap/Oyster cards) from the Airport Express station in the arrivals hall. It costs around €30 for a return Airport Express ticket and three days unlimited travel within the city.

It's only a short 24 minute train ride connecting the airport to the city. But it did take around 30 minutes to get a taxi to where we are staying. We are staying the same apartment (from AirBnB) that we stayed in three years ago. The space was great and the location just perfect.

After unpacking we popped down to the local grocery store to pick up one or two items to keep us going :)

Tonight was the eve of the Mid-Autumn Festival. This is a very special time of the year for the Chinese and other Asian countries. We headed to Victoria Park to enjoy the Lantern Festival and Fire Dragon Display.

Thousands had turned out too, many carrying small lanterns to light their way.

The Fire Dragon above was made up of thousands of incense sticks all set alight.

We didn't stay out too late after all we had been travelling since Wednesday morning. We retired around 1am for a good nights rest.
